The bicentenary period, taking place from 21 to 22 October 2017, was an extraordinary 72-hour period of celebrations across the world. Commemorations brought together a cross-section of humanity, unprecendently diverse, in virtually every spot on earth to join together to celebrate the life and teachings of Bahá’u’lláh.
Kiribati, a remote nation dotted across some 800 square kilomoters of the Pacific Ocean, initiated this remarkable period, being the location of the first sunset in the world on 21 October.
Bicentenary gathering in Kiribati

The President of Kiribati addressed a letter to the Bahá’í community, sharing his warm wishes for the occasion.
"I commend your contributions shared through Bahá’u’lláh's teachings of unity and peace to our youth and community," wrote President Taneti Mamau. "I have confidence that this will go a long way towards strengthening harmonized living, respectful practices, love, and peace in our society."
